Dual Boost from Policy and Demand for Bio-based Platform Chemicals

2026-01-25

As global carbon neutrality goals advance, bio-based chemicals are accelerating their replacement of petroleum-based products. Recently, China's National Development and Reform Commission issued the "14th Five-Year Plan for Bioeconomy Development," explicitly listing biomass-derived platform compounds such as levulinic acid as key development targets.

The plan proposes supporting enterprises in building large-scale, green production lines through tax incentives and R&D subsidies.

Market analysis indicates this could drive domestic levulinic acid production capacity to grow by over 40% within three years, with local suppliers' technical competitiveness significantly strengthening, especially in high-purity pharmaceutical and cosmetic grades.
